You Must Comply: 1984 Was Supposed to be a Warning, Not a Guidebook

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.”
Welcome to the new world order. Welcome to the darkest spaces in the darkest corners of human history: A combination of crony capitalism and technocracy, where your every word, thought, purchase, and movement can be tracked and WILL be controlled. But…but…this is America! That would never happen here…right?
WRONG. The very first, and most important, amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights is currently being trampled, and half of Americans are cheering. Don’t believe me? Allow me to show you.
As if it weren’t bad enough that Twitter and Facebook were censoring the OFFICIAL handles of government officials, such as the President of the United States and his press secretary, on 14 October, 2020 (in light of news that a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, containing compromising materials was reported by the NY Post), now YouTube is getting in on the action. As of December 10th, 2020, YouTube announced an update to its policy that it would remove any videos claiming that voter fraud contributed to the apparent Electoral College victory of Joe Biden. Any videos uploaded after the 10th would be pulled down.
This marks an ever expanding trend of banning “wrongthink.” In a land where free speech is supposedly first and foremost in mind, this should be absolutely unacceptable. However, the spectre of free market capitalism remains not only a stumbling block, but a counterpoint to such unprecedented suppression. “Well, they’re a private entity, so they can do whatever they want.”
There was a time that I would 100% agree with this. However, when a social media platform starts blocking OPINIONS, and taking editorial freedoms, is it really a social media platform? According to US regulations, there are differences between social media and publishers. As of now, social media is acting as a publisher, and that is extremely unnerving.
Mainstream media is already acting as the public relations arm of the left and the DNC. The fact that platforms proclaiming to be a space for individuals who don’t have the same resources as mainstream media are actively suppressing “undesirable” views should be troubling. Sure, there are alternatives like Odysee, DLive, and Parler, but even those are being scolded as extreme, right wing echo chambers by the MSM. And is it necessarily a good idea to leave the overall market to create our own spaces, just to leave the masses unexposed to any ideas outside of the prescribed narrative?
I don’t know about you, but I think this country has reached critical mass. Instead of being a place to spread ideas and speak our minds, social media has simply become a way to echo the desired narrative and control information. Instead of being able to practice religious beliefs freely, you can be arrested to enforce unconstitutional COVID mandates. When 50% of Americans feel that they have no outlet in the President, in Congress, OR in the courts, that they are not represented in ANY facet of American society, what possible good could come of this? Thank God we still have the 2nd Amendment….for now….
